Summary: This dissertation aimed at understanding the feelings of the administrative technicians in education of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology in Espírito Santo State (Ifes) who are in pre-retirement phase. Its justification lies on the fact that people, generally, are not prepared for retirement; very often they suffer and raise doubts when this turning point in their lives is approaching. In this scenario, retirement has been perceived as
one of the most significant losses in human life, with impacts on its social, occupational, financial and psychological side. The research involved 11 technical-administrative servants in education belonging to the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Espírito Santo (Ifes), Campus Vitória, encompassing 7 women and 4 men, aged between 51
and 68. The approach used to conduct the research was qualitative and the data were collected from semi-structured interviews which have enabled content analysis from the perspective of Bardin (2011). According to the categories analyzed, it was observed that there is a necessity of implementation of procedures in the Campus, directed to servers in pre-retirement phase.
As a result of this dissertation, the technical product is the implementation of a Retirement Preparation Program as an Institutional Policy in Ifes in order to prepare the servants who intend to terminate their activities in the institution, to make feasible their elaboration of life projects after the rupture of their bonds with work. Management of Operations in the Public Sector is the area of research that carried out the present dissertation.
