Summary: In Brazil, historically, education has been relegated to the background. With the economic crisis of the last years, this realization gains breath. And the Federal Higher Education suffers more and more from the effects of these crises, which are also cultural. To overcome the challenges imposed, the dominant discourse is the need for changes that provide greater flexibility and agility in University Management. With this, the Modernization of University Management has become a matter of survival and / or quality of teaching, research and extension. In this sense, the rational use of resources, the allocation of people and the change in organizational structure, in order to enable the implementation of this process became central to the effectiveness in the UFES. This work is the result of a research developed in the CCJE of UFES. The work was guided by the following research problem: how the change in the structure of the UFES Center of Juridical and Economic Sciences, through the unification of departments' departments, allowed a greater effectiveness in the Center's objectives. For that, the methodology used was the case study. When the method was used a qualitative research based on technical-empirical knowledge. Regarding the objectives, the research is characterized as descriptive and exploratory, the procedure adopted was the bibliographic survey. Four interviews were conducted with four professors and four interviews with four technical and administrative servants of the CCJE. With this research it was possible to verify that the change in the organizational structure, by itself does not lead to significant changes, that produce the changes necessary for a greater organizational effectiveness.
