Summary: Introduction In recent years, there has been a significant increase in places for students at Brazilian universities. Much of this growth is due to the expansionist movement promoted by the Federal Universities Restructuring and Expansion program (Reuni). In this restructuring process, many federal universities started to operate in more than one county, in a multicampi structure. However, we noted that this new university model raised some challenges. In this context, the problem studied consists of one of them configured during the campus of Alegre communication management, which is fundamental in the formation of the organizations identity and their strategic planning. In this sense, the main objective of this research was to raise a survey of the communicational reality of that campus, and also in Brazilian federal universities that have academic-administrative units outside their Headquarters, in order to understand how communication takes place between these units in order to meet internal and regional specificities, maintaining an institutional identity, and subsidize the elaboration of a technological product. In terms of methods and procedures, after the approval by the Ethics Committee on Research with Human Beings, the heads of the communication advisory offices of these universities were contacted by email with the sending of an online questionnaire in order to assess how the communication sector in units outside the Headquarters of these universities were created. Where they do not yet exist, the factors that hinder the creation of these sectors, the reality of organizational communication WHERE this sector was implanted and its influence on the strategic planning and identity of such institutions were questioned. As it is also a case study of communication at the Federal University of Espírito Santo (Ufes), an online questionnaire was applied with the communication manager of Ufes and another with the communication collaborators of the units of Ufes in the counties of Alegre and São Mateus, in order to better understand the reality of the university that motivates this study. For the theoretical contribution, the following topics were addressed: types of communication, communication in federal universities and communication management. Our results show that, despite the fact that communication today is being carried out satisfactorily, concerning UFES, the communication manager at that university believes that the scenario could improve with the implementation of a communication policy and changes due to the different audiences with whom she talks. The Alegre and São Mateus units disclosed that they can contribute more to the achievement of this objective. This scenario meets the desires of the other universities that responded to this research and believe that communication sectors in units far from the Headquarters have the potential to contribute to a university that provides a better service quality both internally and for the society. The technical product consists of the organization of a communication sector at Ufes in Alegre, using a set of routines and guidelines elaborated from the results of this dissertation. This product will be delivered to Communication Superintendence of Ufes (Supec), in order to meet both the prerequisites of this graduate program and the demand found by this research.
